You may be employing your first employee or already have a team. Setting up and managing your payroll obligations takes time and involves deadlines.
The ATO may impose penalties for late payment of the Superannuation Contribution Guarantee (SGC) payable for your employees, so it is important to stay on top of this, to make sure you know how much you need to pay and by what date.
At Swag Bookkeeeping, our payroll services include weekly, fortnightly or monthly pays, SGC reports and payments, end-of-financial year PAYG Payment Summaries (better known as Group Certificates) and management of commissions and leave entitlements.
If you have increasing demands upon your time and need some payroll support, please contact us and we can discuss your options.
Balancing books can be a bit tricky sometimes. It seems a pretty straight forward process, but it only takes one small error or oversight to mess things up.
If you are recording your transactions manually, it is often just a matter of an amount being recorded incorrectly eg. $1257.49 instead of $1257.94. It can be difficult to pick this up, because our eyes tend to see what we expect to see.
If you are importing your transactions through live bank feeds, it could be a problem with the information coming in to your account. Transactions may have been missed or duplicated, or the opening balance recorded incorrectly.
If you would like us to check your file and find the problem, or to discuss your situation, please click on the Contact Us button, and we will be in touch.
What do you love about bookkeeping?
I am enjoying working remotely tremendously. I get the best of both worlds. It reinforces that everything (well mostly everything) I do is by choice. I’m an extreme case of working remotely since I move locations about every three months but I’m can only assume it really takes the stress out of work for all remote workers. It allows you to love what you do because you can work when you work best.
How did you get to work for Swag?
I was sent the open position through a remote Facebook group. I applied for a part-time bookkeeping position but ended up with social media management. Sheree appreciated my free lifestyle and I suppose I was a good fit. I appreciate the opportunity greatly. I am finding it a challenge and rewarding, especially since I am an American (Texan) working for an Australian company.

Always assuming you have spare time haha 🙂 Well I live on a sailboat in the Western Caribbean, between Mexico and Honduras. My husband and I spend around 90 days in the islands of these countries at a time because of visa restrictions. There is a cruising community that we have become a part of and we enjoy meeting up with friends we have made in the different ports. Our lifestyle is a bit primitive. We don’t have a car to jump in to go to the store. It takes longer to do normal tasks. Our home is small so we spend a lot of time outdoors.
In hurricane season we like to keep our home in Guatemala, up the Rio Dulce where is it safe. When there we find places to travel on land or by air to get out of the hot climate and see something we can’t by boat.

I have always loved to work with numbers and there is no better feeling than the quest to finally balance. Providing clients insight into the financial side of their business is also very rewarding.

With the small amount of spare time I get with little children, I enjoy reading, spending time with family and friends, jet-skiing and researching holidays – if I was not a bookkeeper, I would have loved to follow my passion for holidays and planes.
What do you love about bookkeeping?
I love bookkeeping; it’s a very rewarding and fulfilling career. Being a bookkeeper gives me the freedom to work pretty much anywhere and anytime, which allows me to be there for my clients. Bookkeeping has a start and a finish, a clear set of steps, procedures and routines that you follow to produce the end product. This gives me a sense of achievement.

Sheree and I worked together on some consulting work with my previous long-term employer, so she got to see my skills and experience first-hand. When she discovered that I had finished up with that employer, she contacted me and asked me to join the Swag Bookkeeping family. I had no hesitation in saying yes.

What do you love about bookkeeping?
Bookkeeping is black or white, it’s either right or it’s not which makes it really easy to measure success. I love the challenge of sorting a mess of meaningless figures into useable reports that can provide real insight to business owners to help them understand how their businesses are performing and clearly see whether they are on track to meeting their business and personal wealth goals.
How did you get to work at SWAG?
I was looking for a way to earn some ‘fun money’ while using my knowledge to help others. I had considered starting up a bookkeeping business of my own but felt it might have been too big of a commitment to fit around our already full lives so a quick Google search led me to the SWAG Bookkeeping website, and the rest is history.

SWAG originated as Essential Business Support, a business I created as a work-life balance solution when my children were very young. I still love the flexibility it gives me in each working day.
